Do you already know the Matcha Bar in Amsterdam? Earlier this month i visited this newly opened dessert shop in the de Pijp. Everything in this little store is all about tea, and especially the Japanese tea variety MATCHA. Good news for all the health-conscious folks out there who have a sweet tooth: The desserts and drinks at Matcha Bar are both tasty and outstanding healthy.
What exactly is Matcha?
Matcha it’s one of the oldest variants of green tea and also the most exclusive. It’s made of powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. This natural and organic super booster is full of fibres, minerals, vitamins amino acids and antioxidants. Drinking or eating it helps to boost your metabolism, increase your energy levels, bring calmness to your mind and detox your body. But besides that it is so beneficial to your health, it also has a nice, vibrant colour and tastes very good!
Tradition with a modern twist
This emerald-green drink is used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies for centuries, but has recently gained superfood status all over the world, by cause of its nutritional content. Already a hit in cities like New York and London, Matcha is now having its moment in Amsterdam with the opening of the city’s first Matcha Bar. Thanks to its owner Yung Hao Lie, who also runs the popular Japanese restaurant Hosokawa and Sakebar Ginjo in Amsterdam. Inspired by the Japanese culture, his mission is to introduce people to the authentic dishes that the country has to offer with a bit of modern twist. The cozy, pastel coloured café on the Albert Cuyp market is a perfect spot when you’re craving something sweet. Switch up your standard sugary fix with these lushy and tasty matcha desserts and drinks or just pop up into here for the best superfood coffee alternative to start your day. Curious what’s on their menu? Check it out here. Enjoy!Albert Cuypstraat 89, Amsterdam
